MB427: Gas & Oil Appliance Test Engineer
Location: Cheltenham
Salary: £25,000 – £35,000
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic business who are looking to recruit a Gas & Oil Appliance Test Engineer on a permanent basis located at their Cheltenham depot.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of project scope, pre-calculations and quotations in collaboration with the Business Development Manager and the Team Lead Gas & Oil.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with the Team Lead Gas & Oil and other team members to ensure that client expectations are met within agreed project deadlines and budgets.
  • Operation and calibration of test equipment.
  • Analysis of laboratory test data, preparation of results sheets and laboratory test reports.
  • Risk assessment and the writing of method statements relating to the safe operation of appliances and lab test work.
  • Maintenance of a clean and organised lab and good husbandry of equipment to ensure safe systems of work are followed and work is conducted efficiently.
  • Plan, deliver and report on product surveillance visits to customers’ manufacturing facilities in accordance with the quality management system and standard product surveillance procedures.
  • Understand and apply requirements of the (UKAS accredited) quality management system.
  • Understand and apply test standards and methods in them.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree/HNC/HND in Chemistry, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Physics or substantial equivalent industrial experience, in addition to showing an interest in the energy market and making an active contribution towards developing a low carbon future for the UK.
  • Experience of working for a gas appliance manufacturer, or in a university combustion/chemical engineering department.
  • Experience of managing client relationships and working with customers to understand their needs and advising them on how best to meet them at a technical level.
  • Technical individuals who are already experienced in appliance test or development work and are looking to broaden their horizons to test a wider range of appliances.
  • A person who can demonstrate a keen intelligence, worth ethic, and collegiate approach towards working as part of a team.
  • An appreciation of safety and quality is essential and the person must have a keen interest in helping clients to make improvements in these areas.
  • Individuals who are practical and enjoy solving complex hands-on problems and technically difficult challenges would gain much satisfaction and excel within our technical and laboratory-
  • based teams.

Demonstrable practical knowledge of the following areas:

  • The physical and chemical properties of gases pre and post combustion
  • UK Regulations such as the Gas Appliance (Enforcement) and Miscellaneous Amendment Regulations 2018, EcoDesign of Energy Consuming Products Regulations 2010 and PAS4444
  • The BS EN standards relating to domestic boilers, cookers and fires and commercial catering and heating appliances.
  • The process for CE/UKCA marking
  • Experimental test work.
