Overview:
First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking a Transport Supervisor to join their team in Purton.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport or logistics professional to take on a key supervisory role within a busy operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of transport activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, improving operational efficiency, and leading a team of drivers to deliver a safe and reliable service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with transport, environmental, and health & safety regulations, including tachograph management, vehicle defect reporting, and company policies.
- Support the planning and optimisation of daily vehicle routes to maximise efficiency, minimise downtime, and ensure timely completion of collections and deliveries.
- Monitor driver performance and productivity, providing coaching and support while addressing underperformance where necessary.
- Conduct investigations relating to vehicle accidents, incidents, and staff conduct, ensuring accurate reporting and appropriate follow-up actions.
- Oversee operational standards across vehicles, sites, and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, organisation, and availability of resources.
- Maintain accurate transport documentation and operational records in line with legal and company requirements.
- Support credit control processes and ensure all relevant paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
- Work closely with transport coordinators, depot management, drivers, and other internal teams to ensure the smooth running of daily operations.
- Promote a positive safety culture and ensure high standards of customer service are maintained at all times.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience within transport, logistics, fleet operations, or distribution, ideally in a supervisory or team leadership position.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and optimise vehicle scheduling.
- Good understanding of transport compliance, driver regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple teams.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve queries and maintain positive client relationships.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail when managing documentation and compliance records.
- Competent IT skills, including experience with transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
